The Nigerian Union of Pharmacists Medical Scientist and Professional Allied to Medicine has given the Federal Government a-21 day ultimatum to dissolve the recently constituted and inaugurated boards of management of teaching hospitals, describing the constitution of the boards as violation of Act U15LFN 2004.
The union threatened to embark on strike if the Federal Government fails to dissolve the boards.
In a conference addressed yesterday in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, the union?s national president, Mr. Felix Olukayode Faniran, also called for the removal of the Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chuckwu, on or before July 31, 2013 for allegedly taking sides with one professional group in the health sector against others since his appointment in May 2010 till date.
Faniran, however, called on concerned authorities to address what he described as illegal appointment by the management of the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan.
He cited the appointment of Dr. K. Adedapo, saying: ?He is a medical practitioner, who is fully employed as a lecturer by the University of Ibadan and offered an appointment as an honorary consultant by the University College Hospital, Ibadan, and was also appointed Deputy Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee, Medical Laboratory Science and later promoted Director, Medical Laboratory Science at U.C.H without being a laboratory scientist.
?The medical practitioner did not apply for the post nor was he interviewed, whereas three other health professionals namely deputy directors of nursing, medical social work and medical laboratory were qualified for promotion to the post of director were duly invited and interviewed for promotion to the post of director since March18, 2013, yet the result of the interview has not been released till now.?
