Getting to the Mamma Mia Church - By Rachel Evans

Two Abba-obsessed former university friends awaken old ghosts when they holiday on Skiathos, the Greek island where the hit movie Mamma Mia! was filmed.

Frankie and Julia are old university friends who shared a love of Abba, karaoke and clothes. Now in their late thirties, their lives seem to be stuck in ruts. Julia is a housewife in Hay-on-Wye, with a doting husband and teenage son, but regrets that she has not had a career. Frankie is a reporter on her local newspaper, lives with her mother in their Blackpool boarding house, but feels that she has missed out on marriage and having a family.

When the buy each other Mamma Mia! The Movie DVDs one Christmas they decide to have the girls' holiday they planned but never took the summer they left university. They intend to have some fun, visit the film's locations and maybe sing an Abba song or two.

They spend a few idyllic days lazing on the beach and swimming in the sea. But as temperatures rise so do tensions and, despite a blossoming relationship with a tour guide, Frankie cannot shake the feeling that something is dreadfully wrong. As their holiday draws to an end they head to the Mamma Mia! church. On the rocks, with the sea crashing below, revelations shake their friendship to its core.
